'Show Me'

Check out this video of an app called 'Show Me'.

I would be good to see what 'lessons' have been made by other teachers around the world...

I've had a very short play (at the end of 2011)... but not really used it much yet.

Michael - could be perfect for maths ;)

Let me know what you think,

Chris.

iPAD - Don't you mean iAWESOME

Hi.

My name is Josh.

And I'm an iPAD addict.

Not really... but I am really enjoying using the iPADS in class. Here are some things that I've done

1. Downloaded HUMAN ANATOMY APP for Year 9 Football Class. Students learn about the skeletal system!

2. Downloaded GLO BIBLE for Year 8 Bib. It's a Bible with photos of what the place would've looked like. For example - we saw a photo of Herod's castle this morning which was cool... Currently my Year 8 boys class are working in silence, reading a chapter on their GLO BIBLE and responding in their BIB books.

3. Downloaded PICTURE COLLAGE APP for Year 8 Bib. It's an app where you basically create a collage of photos, text and online pics to create a montage that represents something that we are learning about - in this case Genesis 3 and The Fall.

4. Dowloaded ACTION FX APP - yep this was just for a bit of fun. You film a short video clip and then insert a torpedo, or rogue car crash or even a meteroite. This was fun...

5. In Year 8 English the kids took an IPAD and filmed their mate reading from a book - practicing for their SPOKEN TASK. Then they viewed themselves and made notes of things they need to remember for their speech - don't rock, use hands etc.

6. Downloaded PUBLIC SPEAKING APP for Year 8 English. This is just like a textbook on Public Speaking and meant that as I spoke about things like speaking clearly etc, they could follow along on their APP.

7. Downloaded Excelaide - this is an app that makes things SLO MO. This will be helpful to analyse a kids cricket (bowling or batting) action.

8. Used SAFARI to bring up TWO WAYS TO LIVE - six pictures that explain the BIBLE to my Year 8 Bib class.

There ya go.

The biggest problem that I would like fixed is to be able to take photos/video and email them to me or to the students own email etc.

One day..

... So there you go.

Gifting Apps and getting them on your class set of iPads

Ok,

So a way of getting the apps you want for your students onto the iPads is to 'gift' them.

Legally, you need to purchase 1:1, so in my case, iRealb an app I want to use in my music class is $8.95.

To get it onto a bank I have 'gifted' it to the iPad 'Bank' account.

One hitch - to do this, I opted to use my personal account by using iTunes gift cards to purchase the licences - then gift them.

Do not use this method!

The problem is that when you gift - it does not use 'iTunes credit' but uses the linked credit card account!

So - at the moment I'm $100 down (on my CC), but have $100 of iTunes credit!

If you never bought music / apps / et al on the iTunes store, this would really be bad - luckily I do purchase this way (but was trying to cut back).

So.

More on this later. I suspect a better way is around the corner, but will have to think it through-

Any ideas?

(USA has volume licensing - doesn't help us now but is the best long term solution)

Westside iPads - 2012 - Term1

Hey all Westside iPad-ers.

Just checking in.

Did anyone find some good / great / worthwhile apps while on hols?

There are some class sets of iPads that are waiting to be used - we need to sort out some details of how they will be managed - so if you have questions / ideas / etc please use this forum to exchange info.

I will be trying (in the next little while) to get my head around some of the 'usage' / 'management' issues in the next few weeks - so hopefully we'll have something ready to go shortly,

Stay tuned,

Chris H.
